KATHERINE APPLEGATE: Newbery medalist discusses “The One and Only Family,” newest in her series that began with “The One and Only Ivan” followed by “The One and Only Bob” and “The One and Only Ruby.” Applegate, who lives in Nevada, is author of bestsellers including the Endling series, Crenshaw, Wishtree, the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter books series and the Animorphs series. Friends of the Hennepin County Library announced the 28th season of the Pen Pals reading series, which includes five internationally acclaimed authors, each of whom reads in a morning program and afternoon the following day at Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Main St., Hopkins.

Lerner Publishing Group and Midwest Indigenous Immersion Network are collaborating to create new books in Ojibwe for young readers. New paperback series translated by native Ojibwe speakers will be available Aug. 1. The Let’s Look at Fall series from Pull Ahead Readers features fiction and nonfiction titles, including how autumn changes people, animals and the world around us. The Read About Community Helper series from Read for a Better World covers occupations such as teachers, firefighters and doctors, focusing on how these people contribute to their communities.
