WILLIAM DYER: Former literature teacher at Minnesota State University, Mankato, launches his book “Teaching Fools: Masters and Mentors” about building his cabin on Lake Superior’s South Shore and the characters that make it happen. 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, Barnes & Noble, Eden Prairie Center, 8251 Flying Cloud Dr., Eden Prairie.

HELLO LLAMA: Red Balloon Bookshop hosts a special story time featuring a costumed character reading from “Llama Llama’s Little Lie,” latest in this bestselling series by Anna Dewdney with more than 35 million books in print worldwide. During this stop on a national tour, little Llama fans will have a chance to hear a reading of the new book, have pictures taken with costumed Llama, and participate in activities such as crafts. In the new book, Llama accidentally breaks Mama Llama’s favorite picture frame and thinks a little lie will keep him out of trouble, learning a lesson about telling the truth. Dewdney, who died in 2016, wrote Llama books that have branched out to all types of media, including the Netflix animated series “Llama Llama” starring Jennifer Garner. “Llama Llama Red Pajama” has been adapted by Dolly Parton for a musical performed at Dollywood and was chosen as Jumpstart’s Read for the Record title in 2011, setting the world benchmark for the most readings of a single book in one day. 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, Red Balloon, 891 Grand Ave., St. Paul. HOLDING STEADY: In observance of their 20th anniversary, the Hold Steady rock band brings its new, photo-filled coffee table book, “The Hold Steady: How a Resurrection Feels” by Michael Hann. Band members host a signing with writer Steve Marsh. Event passes come with a preorder of the book and only those with an event pass will get to meet the band. What else is going on

John Sandford fans who missed, or couldn’t afford, the hardcover edition of “The Investigator,” featuring Lucas Davenport’s daughter, Letty, will be happy to know the first book in this series is now available in paperback from Putnam.
