1, 2, 3, 4, 5... 6. The latter is how many years it's been since we had a new song from Canadian popster Feist. That drought ended on Thursday (March 16) when Leslie Feist unleashed the spare, tense Liz Phair-meets-PJ-Harvey-like title single from her upcoming album, Pleasure. The follow-up to 2011's Metals is due out on Universal Records on April 28 and once details leaked earlier this week the singer tweeted out some details about the effort.
Much to my surprise, I woke up this morning to see the word is out for

But as Leonard Cohen once said "the devil laughs at those who make plans."

I've been so inward facing during the making of this record that I hadn't quite prepared myself to face it, and myself, outward again.

So here's what I can tell you....
I made this record last winter with 2 of my closest friends, Mocky and Renaud LeTang.- Feist (@FeistMusic) March 14, 2017
She added that she was "raw" and "so were the takes," and the desire with the album was to tap into that emotional state "without guile or go-to's and to pin the songs down with conviction and our straight up human bodies." And then she revealed the reason behind the album's title.
I titled the album Pleasure like I was planting a seed or prophecising some brightness.

That rawness comes through in the clipped guitar strumming and the terse lyrics, including the opening lines: "Get what I want/ And still it's a mysterious thing that I want/ So when I get it/ I make sense of a mysterious thing/ 'Cause I've taken flight on such a serious wing."
But wait, there was a bit more 'splaining to do.
The experience of pleasure is mild or deep, sometimes temporal, sometimes a sort of low grade lasting, usually a motivator.

If the way you look at things is how they look then my motivation is to look with a brighter eye.

Feist has booked her first show in five years as well, a spot at the Oya Festival 2017 (Aug. 8-12) in Oslo.
But the bluesy song wasn't the only thing Feist shared. She also posted a series of whimsical teaser clips for the song as well.
