Listen to Bette Midler sing TLC's 'Waterfalls'

If you have ever longed to hear Bette Midler sing TLC (and if you haven’t, you should), now is your chance. For her new album, It’s The Girls, Midler sings TLC’s “Waterfalls,” slowing it down, honing in on the sadness of the song. And no, alas, she doesn’t do the Left Eye rap.

The album features Midler singing tunes from a wide range of girl groups, from, yes, TLC to The Andrews Sisters. “We’ve stuffed so many glorious girl groups into this album – it’s an exquisite explosion of estrogen!” she writes on her website. “You’ll croon, you’ll cry, and you’ll walk away craving more.” Have a listen to her takes on “One Fine Day” and “Be My Baby.”

In an interview with Billboard, Midler talked about her desire to tackle “Waterfalls,” which premiered at The Advocate. “‘Waterfalls’ was a heartbreaker, especially if you were a mom, and it had a big effect on me,” she said. “I never thought I would have the nerve to sing it, but we had an idea for it that works, and I am so glad I took the chance.” So are we, Bette. So are we.

The album is out Nov. 4.
