'Abbott Elementary' star Lisa Ann Walter might play a teacher on-screen, but she has plenty of experience with kids

Lisa Ann Walter says her most important role is being a mother to her four children: Jordan, Delia, Spencer and Simon.

The Abbott Elementary star was married to her first husband, Sam Baum, from 1986 to 1999. The couple welcomed two children during their marriage: son Jordan and daughter Delia. Lisa Ann later gave birth to her youngest children, twin sons Spencer and Simon, with her second husband, whose name is unknown.

At the beginning of her acting career, Lisa Ann and Sam moved to New York City, and she became pregnant with Jordan, according to The Morning Call.

In a March 2023 episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actress joked, “I made babies almost immediately when I went to New York to be an actor. Instead, I got knocked up, and that’s when I started doing stand-up.”

Lisa Ann took two years off her career to care for her eldest child until Sam saw she was bored and encouraged her to return to stand-up.

“I definitely know what it’s like to be a working mother — I was doing standup comedy three days before Delia was born,” she told the outlet. “And I was nursing her between two shows every night.”

Over the years, she has also shared heartfelt and hilarious stories about her kids and motherhood.

Jordan Baum, 36

Jordan, who uses he/they pronouns, has followed in his mom’s footsteps and pursued a career in the arts. The actress told Distractify in July 2023, that her son is a professional musician, producer and writer.

“He's lucky enough to do a job he loves — a creative job he loves — and get paid for it," she said. "So, as someone who's the same, I know how lucky he is, and I'm very proud of him because it's not an easy life. But so far, he has been making a living.”

Lisa Ann added, “He lives in a decent apartment in LA, a very expensive town, and hasn't moved home yet. So as far as I'm concerned, that's a success!"

Jordan has supported his mom on several occasions, including attending the 16th Evening Before the Primetime Emmy Awards in September 2022, which coincided with his birthday.

Lisa Ann shared several snaps of the mother-son duo from the evening on her Instagram, writing in the caption, “The Night Before. With my grown a-- bday boy son.”

In March 2024, Jordan also accompanied his mom during her set at The Mermaid Comedy Hour in Los Angeles. Jordan appeared onstage and joined Lisa Ann with a guitar while she performed her stand-up set on the main stage at Hollywood Improv.

Delia Baum, 32

Over the years, the actress has shared insight into her career path, telling Our Children magazine in March 2023, “One of my kids is a therapist for kids on the spectrum and is currently in a Ph.D. program on the east coast.”

Lisa Ann described Delia as “an easy student” who was always “self-motivated” in an interview with Distractify.

She explained, “I never had to get on her for doing her schoolwork; she just did it herself. She was the one that kept all of your supplies organized."

While Delia lives a relatively private life, she has been featured on her mom’s Instagram when she’s captured their family vacations.

For Mother’s Day in May 2021, Lisa Ann snapped several photos from a beach day with her four kids, which included her only daughter. The family of five, plus Sam, also enjoyed a June 2023 trip to Italy, including Venice and Florence.

Spencer Walter, 23

Lisa Ann welcomed twins Spencer and Simon on Oct. 11, 2000.

Her youngest children have a surprising connection with one of her most iconic roles — Chessy from The Parent Trap.

Lisa Ann opened up to Jinkx Monsoon on an episode of the Hi Jinks! podcast about the coincidence, telling the host that she gave birth to her twins on the same day as Lindsay Lohan’s twin characters, Hallie and Annie, were supposed to have been born.

The actress then called Nancy Meyers, who directed the flick, to ask, "What hex did you put on me?"

When she appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden in March 2023, Lisa Ann opened up about her sons’ reactions to her stand-up comedy.

“One of them saw a bit I did about them and he actually, I think, was quite proud," she explained. "But I was like, ‘You know I’m totally busting you? You don’t talk to me. Whenever you do, it’s to criticize something about me.’ “

“I get a lecture on the gig economy, I’m not allowed to return any food at a restaurant. I’m a Karen all of a sudden,” she added. “But meanwhile, they keep coming home because I have free food and WiFi so they keep showing up.”

Simon Walter, 23

Simon, who uses he/they pronouns, was born on Oct. 11, 2000, along with his twin brother, Spencer.

When chatting about Abbott Elementary and her character Melissa Schemmenti, Lisa Ann described her sons as “real high-energy” in an October 2022 interview with Variety.

Even though Spencer and Simon are identical twins and share the same liveliness, Lisa Ann told Distractify in July 2023 that her sons were "total opposites.” Despite being “really, really different,” Lisa Ann said her sons were often mistaken for each other.

"One's a righty, one's a lefty,” she explained. "One's all [about] music and creativity, and he's more emo, and the other one is much more outgoing, and he does IT work. But they look exactly the same."

The actress added, "It's been fun their whole lives to watch them [grow] as they're different. Hopefully, they had teachers that didn't assume they were the same.”

Though Simon isn’t very active on Instagram, he has shared a glimpse into his journey as a musician, including sharing a photo of his acceptance letter to California Institute of the Arts. He also posted several pictures performing with his band at a gig in November 2019, as well as a snippet of a song he was working on back in March 2020.
