Lionel Richie Says King Charles Is "Doing Fantastic"

Amid his cancer treatment, King Charles returned to public engagements this week, and was all smiles this morning at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Last night, while attending the King's Trust gala in New York City, Lionel Richie gave a health update on the King—validating what royal watchers have seen this week.

"Happily I can say, he is doing fantastic," Richie told People. "Again, I understand, he needs to sit still, you know what I’m saying. The most important part is he is doing well. He’s back to his duties and so therefore, I wouldn’t want the first thing for him to do is come over — let’s not prove anything here."

Richie serves as a King’s Trust Global Ambassador, and he was joined at the gala last night by many stars, including Kate Beckinsale, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Kate Moss, and Dominic West.

West, notably, played Charles in the final two seasons of The Crown, worked with the King's Trust (formerly called the Prince's Trust) before he appeared on the Netflix royal drama. This past fall, he told Town & Country he misses playing Charles. "I'm still reading all the news articles about him," West said. "I adore him. I feel real affection for him, which I didn't particularly feel before. And having watched him for so long, I don't feel I'm any closer or more knowledgeable about him but he does fascinate me. He's likable, as well as an interesting character."
