Lion Silverware! Tiger-and-Tartan Cushions! Gucci’s New Home Decor Is an Eccentric Ode to Entertaining

In 2015, Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s newly-appointed creative director, made a prescient promise to Vogue. “The way you dress is really the way you feel, the way you live, what you read, your choices. That’s what I want to put into Gucci.” Now, he’s already fulfilled that vision and then some—the brand now also includes a Michelin-starred restaurant, a garden, and a movie starring Lady Gaga (the brand opened its archives for the costuming of the film). Today, he continues apace by releasing the latest collection that will bring his house’s aesthetic into yours. By, well, doing exactly that.

Gucci’s new homeware collection—available on gucci.com and in boutiques worldwide—is an eccentric ode to entertaining as the world joyfully re-embraces the dinner party. Their plateware, from dessert dishes to chargers, is crafted by Ginori 1735 (the storied Florentine ceramicist the brand bought in 2013) and adorned in a series of signature motifs, like their surrealist “Star Eye.” New sets of forks and spoons come chiseled with lion heads, a process so intricate that the utensils go through 20 manufacturing stages. Other serving oddities, from soup tureens to teapots, come bathed in the house’s famous Herbarium print.

Their cushions—a cult collector’s item since Gucci decor launched in 2017—are back and to the maximalist. One has a floral print with pink tassels, another features a lounging tiger patch plastered onto tartan.

Other items of idiosyncratic interest? A footstool upholstered in bee-printed jacquard, a pink toile folding table, and a magazine rack adorned with an octopus.

Even the smallest of offerings are made with the utmost artistic touch. Gucci’s candles, molded in colored opaline Murano glass, took visual cues from medicine jars found in late 19th and 20th century pharmacies.

And those are just the decor accents and objets d'art. Made-to-order footstools and chairs are upholstered with alien jacquard, while the wallpaper features bold geometric prints.
