Linkin Park has dropped a previously unreleased song that includes the voice of Chester Bennington on their upcoming album, Papercuts.

Bennington died by suicide at age 41 on July 20, 2017.

The new track, titled "Friendly Fire," was first released on Friday and comes before the group’s upcoming career-spanning greatest hits album, which drops April 12.

Friendly Fire” is a previously unreleased track from the band’s 2017 album, One More Light.

The band first recorded the song for their seventh album, and filmed a corresponding music video. The “Friendly Fire” music video was also released on Friday and features never-before-seen studio and live footage.

Directed and edited by long-time collaborator Mark Fiore, the song encapsulates the seven-year-old album’s style.

Lead guitarist Brad Delson shared that the track “was always one of our favorite songs from the One More Light sessions.”

“Something about it wasn’t quite right so as close as it got to the finish line, we chose to set it aside for later,” continued Delson, 46. “When we started looking for an unreleased track to include on our greatest hits collection, I was blown away by the power of the song, the power of the storytelling, the power of the vocal, the sonic landscape and I actually thought that it was closer than maybe we had realized at the time.”

Mike Shinoda, the band's co-founder, added how it was a “joy” to assemble the tracklist for Papercuts. “Each song in this collection is both a singular moment on our timeline and an evolving story that is as much ours as it is yours," said the musician, 47. "From our first release, ‘One Step Closer’ to the brand-new ‘Friendly Fire,’ this tracklist spans all our chapters so far.”

The upcoming album has a total of 20 tracks, including: “Crawling,” “Faint,” “Numb/Encore,” “Papercut,” “Breaking The Habit,” “In The End,” “Bleed It Out,” “Somewhere I Belong,” “Waiting For The End,” “Castle Of Glass,” “One More Light,” “Burn It Down,” “What I’ve Done,” “QWERTY,” “One Step Closer,” “New Divide,” “Leave Out All the Rest,” “Lost,” “Numb” and “Friendly Fire.”

The band has mostly been on hiatus since October 2017's Linkin Park and Friends: Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington tribute concert. However, in February 2023, for the 20th anniversary of the band's 2003 album Meteora, the band unveiled a previously unreleased song, “Lost,” that included Bennington’s vocals.

Fans can pre-order or pre-save the upcoming album before the April 12 release.
