Lindsay Lohan went from starring in The Parent Trap to becoming a parent herself when she welcomed her son, Luai Shammas, in 2023 with her husband, Bader Shammas.

Lohan’s family had no doubt about her capabilities as a mother, because she has always been a maternal force for her younger siblings. “My sister is … one of the most caring, kind, humble, brilliant, stunningly beautiful, talented people,” Lohan’s sister Aliana Lohan told PEOPLE. “She’s incredible, and she’s a born mama. I love her so much, and I really look up to her so much.”

Lohan has taken all of the changes that come along with being a mom in stride — from having to prepare a nursery to getting comfortable with her postpartum body.

“I am so proud of what this body was able to accomplish during these months of pregnancy and now, recovery," she wrote on Instagram alongside a mirror selfie. "Having a baby is the greatest joy in the world!” She even shared a nod to her iconic Mean Girls role. “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a postpartum mom,” she concluded.

Here’s everything to know about Lindsay Lohan and Bader Shammas’ son, Luai Shammas.

On March 14, 2023, Lohan surprised fans by announcing her pregnancy with a photo of a onesie on Instagram that simply said “coming soon.”

"We are blessed and excited! 🙏🤍👶🍼," she captioned the post, tagging Shammas.

Lohan told Allure that finding out she was pregnant was equally low-key. “It was so unexciting,” she remembered. “I walked into the room, I threw the test down. I was like, ‘Guess what?’ He goes, ‘We are?’ ”

Dina Lohan, Lohan’s mom, was over the moon. “I'm so happy, I can't stop smiling," she told PEOPLE. "It's incredible. We're just so excited. It's just such a beautiful thing for my child! My oldest baby is having a baby.”

Her father, Michael Lohan, was equally thrilled. "All I can say is I'm so, so happy for Lindsay and Bader! They will be amazing parents," he told PEOPLE. "We are all truly blessed in so many ways!"

In April 2023, Lohan and Shammas enjoyed a gorgeous baby shower surrounded by family and friends. "Flew into town to shower my gorgeous preggers bestie and glowing mama-to-be," friend Juliet Angus shared in an Instagram Story with a photograph of herself and Lohan ahead of the big day.

Also on the guest list were sister Aliana, brother Dakota and mom Dina. The party took place in a gorgeous garden surrounded by white roses and a giant teddy bear. Lohan captioned a slideshow of her snaps: “Good times ☺️🤰So grateful for all of the wonderful people in my life!”

Though Luai’s actual birthday is unknown, in July 2023, Lohan’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE that she and Shammas’ first child was born. "Lindsay Lohan and her financier husband, Bader Shammas, welcomed a beautiful, healthy son named Luai,” said the rep. “The family is over the moon in love.”

Luai is an Arabic name meaning "shield or protector.” The little one was born in Dubai. Mom Dina flew out as soon as he was born, telling PEOPLE he “came two days” earlier than expected.

"God has truly blessed us all with lil Luai," mom Dina shared with PEOPLE in August. "As I held Luai, tears of happiness rolled down my cheeks. Lindsay took to her best role ever so naturally … she was always meant to be a mother. Badar [Shammas] took to the role of daddy like a pro as well. They are a perfect team."

Lohan teamed up with baby company Nestig to create the nursery of her dreams for her little one — full of pieces from her own collab with the brand.

The beautiful ocean-themed room features chic, classic items like a natural wood and white painted crib and dresser, with unique pieces like a sailboat-shaped shelf and an adorable felt mobile.

The best part? A mural covering the walls featuring serene scenes of an ocean. "I feel so peaceful by the ocean—I wanted to create a space where my little one and I could share in that feeling,” she told Architectural Digest. "It warms the space so much and I can’t wait to point out all the cute little elements to my babe."

Luai is growing up in Dubai

Luai is growing up in a very different environment than his mom did. While Lohan was raised in New York City, she and Shammas are raising Luai in Dubai.

“I guess you would say it happened organically,” Lohan told Allure of how she ended up in the United Arab Emirates. “Dubai gives me that space to have my own vision of what I need to do next.”

Lohan says even though it’s a bustling city, her life is more peaceful there because she doesn’t have to deal with the same public attention and pressure she did in America. In Dubai, she can provide a more steady schedule and peace for her son.

“Sometimes I call it The Truman Show, because it’s the same thing every day," she said. "But I love it. I really love structure, because I didn't think I had that when I was young.”

The only downside is being away from “filming” and family. Luckily, her loved ones are always willing to visit. “I got to see my best friends in a place I never thought I’d experience as in Dubai,” her brother Dakota shared after a visit in August 2023. “They have the most precious little baby Luai who lights up their life and everyone who meets him. This trip to Dubai really put me in the best headspace and I’m beyond grateful for every single moment.”

Luai already has some very famous friends

He may only be a few months old, but Luai has friends in high places. Many of Lohan’s famous former costars have voiced love and support for her and her family before and after welcoming her son.

When Lohan announced her pregnancy on Instagram, her pals were thrilled for her. "This is WONDERFUL NEWS!!" Amanda Seyfried who played Karen Smith in Mean Girls wrote in the comments. Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Wieners, added, "I'm thrilled for you!!!! So exciting ❤️❤️❤️❤️."

Lohan’s Freaky Friday costar Jamie Lee Curtis was over the moon about her new “grandson.” “My movie daughter just made me a movie grandmother,” the actress wrote on Instagram, sharing a throwback photo with Lohan. “Blessings to Lindsay and Bader for the birth of Luai!”

Lohan herself thanked Curtis for the support, and shared the sweet gift she sent — a stack of books, including one she wrote herself.

Curtis also gave Lohan some advice for being a working mom in the film industry. "I spoke to Jamie Lee Curtis recently, and she was like, ‘You just bring the baby with you and everything will be fine,” Lohan told Allure.

Lohan also felt the love from her Parent Trap costars, Lisa Ann Walter (Chessie in the film) and Elaine Hendrix (Meredith). "She looks so happy and so healthy and I'm so thrilled for her,” Walter told PEOPLE, adding that she “knew she was going to be a good mother” and revealed she shared some advice with her via social media.

"She posted something and I think it was about being tired, and I immediately go into that mom mode of 'nap when he does, make sure you get sleep, it doesn't matter what you look like — you're in great shape,' just all the advice that comes out," said Walter. "But she's just doing so well."
