Linda Williams is leaving Fox 10 in Phoenix after 42 years: 'It's been a phenomenal party'

It's been a great run, but Linda Williams is retiring from Fox 10 in Phoenix after 42 years.

"It's been a phenomenal party, but it's just time to go," Williams told The Arizona Republic.

Williams started with Fox 10 in 1981, when it was known as KOOL-TV. Most recently she has worked as co-anchor of weekend newscasts. She began her career at the PBS station in Phoenix in 1979. She is a graduate of Arizona State University.

So why leave now?

"Just a combination of things all came together," Williams said. "You know, part of it is my financial person says don't let a birth certificate tell you when to retire. But I will be 65 shortly. And I just want to do other things while I'm still 'spry.' 'Spry' is with quote marks around it, by the way."

When is Linda Williams' last day at Fox 10?

Williams plans to visit her children in New York more often, she said. She also wants to travel to Portugal, get her real estate license and volunteer to help children and veterans.

"I mean, people say what are you going to do?" Williams said. "And I say a little bit of everything, kind of scattered. I'm excited."

Her last day on the air is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2024.

"I'm not giving up my career," Williams said. "I'm just moving on. I'm a part of this community. I always will be. I will be here and I will still be doing what I can to make it a better community. I just won't be on TV doing it."
