Lin-Manuel Miranda to Leave Hamilton in July to Pursue Other Projects

As if scoring Hamilton tickets wasn’t impossible already, the Broadway hit’s creator and star will soon be taking his final bow.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has set his final performance date for July 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The exit comes when the contracts of many members of the original Broadway cast expire, less than a month after the Tony Awards, for which the show nabbed record-setting 16 nominations.

Miranda’s rep tells PEOPLE: “There is nothing to confirm at this time.”



According to THR, Miranda – who stars as Alexander Hamilton in addition to writing the show’s book and score – has supposedly told close companions he is leaving to pursue other projects, which should keep him plenty busy.

The actor is already set to star as a street lamplighter named Jack with Emily Blunt in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, and The Weinstein Co. recently picked up the movie rights for his first Broadway musical, In the Heights. Miranda also wrote the music for the new Disney film Moana, due to hit theaters this November.

Hamilton has attracted many celebrity fans, including President Obama and his family, who have seen the show twice and invited the cast to the White House.

“It was really very surreal,” Miranda tells PEOPLE of the First Family’s visit to the show. “This journey started at the president’s house: The first time I’d presented any music for Hamilton was when I was invited to perform at the White House in 2009, and that video has been seen millions of times.”
