Lily Gladstone Teases That Her 2024 Oscars Dress Is Going to Be ‘Museum-Worthy’ (Exclusive)

"It's going to be just ongoing proof that Indigenous design belongs on red carpets with luxury fashion," the 'Killers of the Flower Moon' actress tells PEOPLE

Lily Gladstone has quite the outfit planned for the 2024 Oscars.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards on Wednesday, the actress, 37, shared that she thinks her attire will "definitely" be a "showstopper."

"Definitely museum-worthy, I would say," Gladstone tells PEOPLE at the event, which was held at NeueHouse Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Gladstone, who is of Siksikaitsitapi and Niimiipuu heritage, is making history at this year's Oscars after becoming the first Native American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award. She's in the running for Best Actress for her performance as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon.

"It's going to be just ongoing proof that Indigenous design belongs on red carpets with luxury fashion in a very centerpiece kind of way. I'm excited," Gladstone, who is the fourth Indigenous actress to earn a nomination in the Best Actress category, continues of her upcoming red carpet look.

For Wednesday's event, Gladstone added a pop of color to proceedings, wearing a red sequin Valentino outfit featuring a jacket with ruffled sleeves and a trail and matching flared pants.

"Valentino made it custom for me. It was one of the several options that we've had this whole season and it felt like tonight, being here amongst costume designers, it was time to bust out something that was really stunning structurally, texturally, that's made a big, bold statement," the Billions star tells PEOPLE.

"And the color red, wearing it campaigning this film, particularly, it's the color of visibility for Missing, Murdered Indigenous Relatives, which is kind of the heart of the arc that my character has," she adds.

"Even though that story was 100 years ago, it wasn't a new story then, and it's still not a new story now. It's an epidemic that continues. So getting to wear red increases our visibility. It's done in solidarity with Missing, Murdered Indigenous Relatives, and lovingly crafted by Valentino, who have just been with me since the very beginning," the actress continues of her look.

Gladstone has been taking awards season by storm so far, becoming the first Indigenous woman to win the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture - drama category last month.

Mollie Burkhart, Gladstone's Killers of the Flower Moon character, is based on a real-life woman who was a member of the Osage Nation. Mollie's family members, including her mother and sisters, were killed by men over their rights to oil reserves located underneath their reservation in Oklahoma.

The movie, available to stream now on Apple TV+, is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars actors including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons.
