It looks like Lil Wayne won’t keep fans waiting much longer for his next album, Tha Carter VI. Over the weekend, the rapper teased the upcoming project while performing at the Young Money Reunion concert on Saturday, August 6th, before following up with a post on his Instagram Story.

“I’m working on Carter VI, coming soon!” Wayne told the crowd at Drake’s October World Weekend festival as he walked off stage. Then, a giant sign reading “Tha Carter VI” appeared on the screen behind him. Watch a clip of the announcement below (via HipHop-N-More).

The New Orleans native cemented the announcement with a video posted to his Instagram Story, saying “Tunechi here. Thank you. I ain’t shit without you. I’m not sure if you heard, but Tha Carter VI is on the way.” Along with the clip, he shared a pre-save link for “new music coming soon.”

Of course, the Young Money Reunion show had plenty of excitement on its own. After first being pushed back to the closing night of the festival due to Drake’s positive COVID test, the set got off to a late start because Wayne had issues entering Canada, but “luckily Drake runs the border,” according to a message displayed on the onstage screen.

Once it began, Wayne shared the stage with his proteges-turned-superstars Drake and Nicki Minaj. During the performance, the trio ran through some of their biggest collaborations, including “The Motto,” “Moment 4 Life,” and “HYFR.”

It’s worth noting Wayne has been teasing Tha Carter VI for at least two years. After telling Variety that his favorite installment in the Carter series “is the next one” in July 2020, Wayne went on ESPN one month later and said it would be “coming soon” after the release of his next mixtape No Ceilings 3 — the latter project dropped that November.

Tha Carter V, which was supposed to be the final installment in Wayne’s breakout album series, finally dropped in 2018 after being held up for several years due to issues with Cash Money Records. Two years after that, he released his most recent studio album, The Funeral.

Wayne recently suffered a great personal loss in late July, when Robert Hoobler, the police officer who saved his life after a childhood suicide attempt, died at the age of 65. Earlier this summer, the artist was denied entry to the UK over a past criminal conviction.
