Lil Wayne Names Future’s ’56 Nights’ Greatest Hip-Hop Mixtape Of All-Time

Lil Wayne is regarded as a mixtape legend, but he surprised the world this week by not naming one of his own projects as the greatest Hip-Hop mixtape of all time. Instead, the 41-year-old wordsmith gave those flowers to Future for his 2015 effort 56 Nights.

Weezy F Baby appeared on Complex’s GOAT Talk this Tuesday with 2 Chainz, where they crowned several things as the “greatest” within a variety of categories. When asked for the greatest Hip-Hop mixtape of all time, the “A Milli” rapper didn’t take a second before saying Future and DJ Esco’s 56 Nights.

As for Tity Boi, he offered three answers: his 2011 project T.R.U. REALigion, Wayne’s 2005 project The Dedication, and Jeezy and DJ Drama’s 2005 tape Trap Or Die. Elsewhere in the conversation, they both named the greatest diss tracks of all time. The New Orleans rapper chose The Notorious B.I.G’s “What’s Beef” and Chainz picked 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up.”

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s appearance on GOAT Talk comes a little over a month after they released their latest collaborative album Welcome 2 Collegrove. The 21-song effort, the sequel to their 2016 project Collegrove, featured Usher, Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Benny The Butcher, Vory, and more.

They kicked off the rollout in October with the lead single “Presha” and followed up with “Long Story Short” in early November.

Individually, Lil Wayne also put out Tha Fix Before Tha VI in late September, offering fans a precursor to his forthcoming album Tha Carter VI. The 10-song project featured Jon Batiste, Cool & Dre, Fousheé, euro, and TheNightAftr. 2 Chainz hasn’t released a formal project since his February 2022 LP Dope Don’t Sell Itself. He has appeared on several features in the interim though, namely Tink’s “Cater,” Baby Tate’s “Ain’t No Love,” Neek Bucks’ “Mask Up,” and Ron Browz’s “Get In My Zone.” Listen to Dope Don’t Sell Itself below.
