Lil Wayne has been a loud and proud sports fan for his entire career. The 41-year-old rapper recently decided to take a direct role in the operations of a professional sports team, as he was named the strategic advisor for a pickleball team in Texas.
Weezy F. Baby was announced to be one of 30 owners with a stake in the Texas Ranchers, who are one of the eight founding teams within Major League Pickleball. He joins Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett, Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons, and more notable names within sports and beyond.
“Pickleball is the moment and I’m excited to be part of the Texas Ranchers ownership group,” the five-time Grammy winner said. “I’ve enjoyed watching and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join this team of owners.”
The official Ranchers Instagram account shared an enthusiastic post introducing Lil Wayne as part of the organization. “Welcome @liltunechi to @rancherspickleball!” they wrote, revealing that he will assist in the creative direction for their branding and future apparel collaborations in an effort to “build America’s Pickleball team.” He will be in direct competition with his protege Drake, who was announced as an investor in the Brooklyn Aces pickleball team in July.
It is an exciting time for the Cash Money rapper, as he recently reunited with 2 Chainz for the single “Presha.” Their joint release kickstarted the official rollout for their forthcoming collaborative album Welcome 2 Collegrove, the follow-up to their 2016 project Collegrove.
The New Orleans rapper is also making moves on his own. Last month, he released Tha Fix Before Tha VI, which served as music to hold fans over until his forthcoming album Tha Carter VI. Tha Fix featured Jon Batiste, Cool & Dre, the late DMX, and more and was preceded by his single “Kat Food.” Listen to Tha Fix Before Tha VI below.
