Lil Wayne may potentially be called to testify in Young Thug’s YSL RICO trial regarding their past beef.

On Wednesday (April 1), Fulton County Judge Ural Glanville informed the state that they will need to present Weezy at trial in order for video evidence related to the rap star to be admissible in court. The ruling came down as Chief Deputy District Attorney Adriane Love attempted to have footage of Weezy speaking on he and Young Thug’s feud used as evidence against Thug.

However, Glanville denied Love’s request, suggesting that the prosecution has been avoiding calling the New Orleans native as a witness as they attempt to prove their case.

“It seems like you all are trying really hard not to call [Lil Wayne] and that’s your choice,” Glanville told Love, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Jozsef Papp. “If you don’t call him, my ruling will stand on these particular exhibits that you are trying to introduce.”

Wayne and Young Thug’s beef was spurred by Thug’s decision to title his album Barter 6, a play on Weezy’s popular Tha Carter album series. The pair would exchange shots on wax and through the media, with their war of words allegedly escalating in 2015, when Weezy’s tour bus was shot up by an alleged YSL member in 2015.

The incident, which happened following Wayne’s appearance at Compound nightclub in Thugger’s hometown of Atlanta, Ga., was quickly attributed to the rapper and Cash Money Records CEO Birdman, although the latter denied having any knowledge of the incident.

Jimmy Carlton Winfrey would be arrested and charged with the shooting, being hit with a 20-year sentence after being found guilty on six of the 27 counts against him. Originally sentenced to 10 years in prison and another 10 years of supervised release, Winfrey’s conviction was overturned by the state of Georgia in 2018.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the judge presiding over Winfrey’s case overstepped their boundaries while suggesting that Winfrey would receive a harsher prison sentence if he did not accept the plea deal that had been offered to him by the prosecution.

“This opportunity is going away,” the judge reportedly told Winfrey at the time. “Go to trial and you get convicted there’s not going to be any of me being concerned about when you parole out… Whatever they say you’re guilty of I’m going to sentence you, and I’m not going to worry about when you get out of jail because it’s not my concern.”

Lil Wayne was removed from the state’s witness list last month, however, rap artists such as Birdman, Rich Homie Quan, and YFN Lucci remain as potential witnesses that could be ordered to testify if called by the prosecution.
