Drake is undeniably one of the most commercially successful artists ever, but his critical reception is often mixed. Lil Wayne believes that the hate for his successor stems from the fact that he is light-skinned.

Weezy F. Baby appeared on The Richard Sherman Podcast on Friday (Jan. 19) where the former NFL player gave him props for identifying the Toronto superstar’s talent. “I get that from my upbringing, from being around Birdman,” he responded.

Sherman transitioned the conversation into Drake’s naysayers and why they exist. “He red, he light-skinned,” Wayne replied. “That’s just American history. How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.” Check out the interview below.

Lil Wayne also spoke about another one of the artists he discovered and pushed toward greatness recently.

During his appearance on Complex‘s GOAT Talk in December 2023, he said Nicki Minaj was the greatest Young Money artist of all time. 2 Chainz, who sat alongside him during the episode as they were promoting their latest collaborative effort Welcome 2 Collegrove, agreed.

They released their joint album in November 2023. The 21-track LP featured Usher, Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Vory, Fabolous, Benny The Butcher, and more.

Wayne has also been an active feature artist over the last year. He appeared on “RNB” from Minaj’s latest album Pink Friday 2, “Seven” from Kid Cudi’s INSANO, Rob49’s “Wassam Baby,” Ciara’s “How We Roll” remix, and Benny The Butcher’s “Big Dog.” Check out the “Wassam Baby” video below.
