On Wednesday (Jan. 10), Lil Nas X shared a trailer for his upcoming release, “J CHRIST.” The 20-second clip shows a never-ending line of people dressed in white as they ascend the stairway to heaven. Said trailer followed the official artwork reveal for “J. CHRIST,” complete with an image of the Georgia talent being hoisted into the air on a cross.

Lil Nas X‘s latest promotional drop marked a continuation of increasingly religious themes shared by the “Old Town Road” star since he teased a gospel-inspired single in November 2023. Not long after, he launched a website that asked fans to save him from Satan.

“Has the devil-worshipping pop artist finally been sacrificed to his master?” a message read. “Why is he secluding himself? What is he preparing for? This site will answer all these questions and more! We will find Montero and we will save him by returning his heart to J. Christ’s light! Perhaps the devil has possessed Nas X with the spirit of sin to influence the world into d**nation. That is why Nas has been away from the spotlight. To arrange a scheme against the world with Satan and probably twerk on him some more!”

On Tuesday (Jan. 9), Lil Nas X took to social media to announce that he would be double-majoring in Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies at Liberty University — complete with a faux acceptance letter bearing a signature from conservative pastor Jerry Falwell (whether it was meant to be Falwell Jr. or the late Falwell Sr. is unclear). The institution quickly responded in a statement to TMZ.

“We can confirm that Liberty University did not issue the Montero Hill ‘acceptance letter’ posted yesterday to social media and we have no record of Montero Hill applying to the university,” it read. “Liberty University exists to glorify God by equipping men and women in higher education in fidelity to the Christian faith expressed through the holy scriptures.”
