The rapper opened up about performing and acting as musical director for Usher's halftime show set on 'The Jennifer Hudson Show'

Getting the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show off the ground wasn't all smooth sailing.

On Friday, Lil Jon — who acted as musical director of the performance and appearing for "Turn Down for What" and "Yeah!" — opened up about the "hardest part" of putting together Usher's set on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

"Putting this show together was really hard because it's Usher's biggest show of his career, so like, we really had to think about that and formulating the set list. With him, it's his biggest show, so we had to listen to him and his direction in a sense of he might want to come back and want to change things because he's thinking about it more and more and doesn't want to alienate some fans," the "Act a Fool" rapper (whose real name is Jonathan Smith), 53, told Jennifer Hudson.

He added: "It's so many songs, it's like, which songs don't make it? It was a lot of work, and that was the hardest part of it."

Lil Jon explained that the "U Got It Bad" singer "made changes until the very end" when it came to his set list.

The talk show host, 42, then pointed out that she imagined skating was a challenging part of the show.

"Did you skate? Would you skate?" Hudson asked, to which Lil Jon replied: "No I can't skate. No ma'am."

He continued: "I be falling. I'll just stick to this part — 'Yeah!'"

Lil Jon has been expanding his interests beyond music for a while.

In 2022, he starred in his own HGTV home design series, Lil Jon Wants to Do What?, now back for its second season.

"There's many facets of Lil Jon, as we all know from the Dave Chappelle sketches," he told PEOPLE. "It's not all about screaming and partying on this HGTV show. It's really about catching a vibe from people, listening to the homeowners, and [giving them] a place where they can create memories with their family."

The show followed Lil Jon and designer Anitra Mecadon as they helped a family remodel a section of their house. The duo brought some out-of-the-box ideas to life within homeowners' budgets.

The second season of Lil Jon Wants to Do What? premiered on HGTV earlier this month.
