All of the lights: Check out these holiday light shows around Kansas City

It’s Christmas time and not only does that bring holiday cheer, but it also brings festive and bright lights. The Plaza lighting ceremony was just the tip of the iceberg, as sites around the metro area begin to put on their displays.

Here are some holiday light shows you and the entire family can enjoy.

Lane of Lights

Take a trip through Lover’s Lane at Excelsior Springs’ Lane of Lights. A different non-profit organization hosts the lane every day. They’re suggesting a $5 donation per vehicle and there’s a $25 fee for large buses and group tours.

It’s open every day at 5 p.m. and it runs until Dec. 31

Christmas in the Park

The 34th edition of Christmas in the Park features more than 500,000 lights and 175 animated displays. Admission is free at the Longview Lake Campground, but they do take donations at the end of the drive.

It’s open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day until Dec. 31.

Festival of Lights

Through Jan. 5, Powell Gardens hosts the fifth annual Festival of Lights. More than 20 miles of festive lights decorate the garden’s trees, architecture and landscape.

It’s open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday until Dec. 30. It’s closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tickets cost $13 for adults and $6 for children ages 5 and up, and parking passes are $5 per vehicle. You can buy tickets here.

Sea of Lights

Kansas City’s only aquarium has thousands of colorful lights throughout the exhibit. It offers a “Marquee lights” holiday selfie opportunity in the Stingray Bay, along with many decorated trees displayed throughout until Jan. 5. Tickets are $19 and can be purchased here.

Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead hosts a drive-thru holiday light show synchronized to classic holiday and movie music. Admission is free and it’s open through Jan. 7 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Sar-Ko Aglow

Starting Dec. 3 and going until Jan. 12, the Sar-Ko Par Trails Park will be draped in holiday lights. The official lighting ceremony starts at 6 p.m. and it’s free to attend. Santa Claus will also be there to hear children’s wishes.
