Mark your calendars, Louisville, we'll be ringing in the holiday season on a different day this year.

Light Up Louisville will take place on Dec. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m., according to a social media post from Louisville Metro Special Events released Monday.

Festivities normally take place on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but Mayor's Office spokesperson Kevin Trager said this year's date was changed to give more time back to city employees.

"Light Up Louisville is a huge team effort, with dozens of employees from Public Works, Facilities, (Louisville Metro Police) and the Mayor’s Office working together, including setting up the event the day before it happens," he said. "Moving the event to the following weekend allows our employees to enjoy Thanksgiving Day with their families. We encourage Louisvillians to come downtown on Dec. 2 to celebrate this wonderful tradition."

What is Light Up Louisville?

Light Up Louisville, presented by LG&E, is a yearly celebration to open the holiday season in the city, with a full lineup of events including a parade, a vendor market with crafts and treats and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Full details on all the events for this year's celebration have not yet been released.
