‘Life in Pieces’ Preview: Dougie’s Back, and She’s Wedding Gift Shopping

When the gift she picked out for Matt and Colleen’s upcoming nuptials turns out to be a bust — literally and figuratively — Dougie (The Mindy Project’s Fortune Feimster) turns to Joan for help in picking out a new one on Thursday’s episode of CBS’s Life in Pieces.

As seen in the Yahoo TV exclusive clip above, Joan is startled by Dougie’s typically aggressive request: when Dougie pulls the Short family mama into her room, Joan thinks she may want drugs, and says she has only osteoporosis meds to share. Dougie doesn’t need them, though.

“My bones are strong,” she tells Joan. “I nursed straight from a cow for the first six months of my life.”

Dougie reveals the gift she purchased — from a gas station — for her friends, and when Joan is less than impressed, Dougie asks her to help choose a replacement.

Therapist Joan thinks Dougie is asking for mental health help, while Dougie protests that someone as normal as herself does not need that… right before she asks if Joan wants to pet the giant snake curled up in her bed.

Elsewhere in the episode, Colleen goes to Tim for medical help, but begs him not to share her embarrassing problem with the family; Heather is jealous when her mommy group friends take a liking to Jen; and Cary Elwes returns as Professor Wilde, who encourages Joan to let her family read a draft of her book.

Life in Pieces airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
