We’re getting ever closer to the return of The Librarians.

More from TVLine

The CW unveiled its Fall 2024 schedule on Thursday, revealing that The Librarians: The Next Chapter will air on Thursday nights later this year, following new episodes of Superman & Lois‘ final season.

The network’s follow-up to the TNT series was ordered in May 2023 and centers on “a Librarian from the past, who time traveled to the present, and now finds himself stuck here.” When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.

CW entertainment president Brad Schwartz had previously told TVLine that they were “100%” trying to get at least one original Librarians cast member to at least put in a cameo and pass the proverbial baton — and they’ve since secured Christian Kane, who will reprise his role as Jacob Stone in a guest-starring capacity.

Read on to get the latest news on The Librarians: The Next Chapter, including casting updates, plot details and premiere intel.

The Librarians franchise started off as a series of made-for-TV movies headlined by ER vet Noah Wyle. He played titular librarian Flynn Carsen in 2004’s Quest for the Spear, 2006’s Return to King Solomon’s Mines and 2008’s Curse of the Judas Chalice, and later recurred on The Librarians, which aired for four seasons between 2014 and 2018.

The series starred Rebecca Romijn (as Eve Baird), Christian Kane (as Jacob Stone), Lindy Booth (as Cassandra Killian), John Kim (as Ezekiel Jones) and John Larroquette (as Jenkins).

The Librarians: The Next Chapter will serve as a follow-up to the TNT series and be set in the same universe.

Jessica Green (The Outpost) has been cast as Charlie Cornwall — aka the Guardian. “Charlie, having been rejected by the Library to serve as a Guardian – essentially the bodyguard of The Librarian – was at a low point in her life when she got the call to be a ‘special guardian’ on a trial basis,” reads the official character breakdown. “Trained in the military, her dedication and martial art skills are unquestionable. If she can keep the powers that be in line, she can achieve her dream to become a permanent member of the Library.”

The Guardian is a pivotal role in the Librarians franchise. Characters who have previously served as the Guardian include Eve Baird (played by Rebecca Romijn), Charlene (Jane Curtin) and Nicole Noone (first portrayed by Sonya Walger in The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, and later by Rachel Nichols in The Librarians Season 4).

Additionally, Callum McGowan (Jamestown) will play Vikram Chamberlin, the Librarian from the year 1847 who breaks the rules and accidentally transports himself to present-day Central Europe. There, he must lead a team of talented young people in securing magical artifacts from those who would abuse them. The question is: Will Vikram keep his oath to the Library (and his new team), or will he attempt to travel back to his own time where unfinished business – and his heart – remain.

Other Next Chapter castings include Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino) as Lysa Pascal, Bluey Robinson (Britannia) as Connor Green and Caroline Loncq (Mammals) as Mrs. Astolat.

No additional returnees have been announced as of press time.
