LiAngelo Ball, the middle brother of Lonzo and LaMelo, on Saturday was selected with the 14th overall pick by the Greensboro Swarm in the NBA G League draft, the affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets.

Ball averaged 9.6 points, two rebounds and 1.6 steals in five games with the Hornets in the Las Vegas Summer League. He was said to have impressed his coaches and teammates during his stay over the summer and was a lock to join the Swarm this season.

He signed last week with the Hornets, and was cut the following day, a move designed so the Swarm would retain his G League rights. However, the Swarm no longer held his rights because a procedural issue prevented him from being an affiliate player so he became draft eligible.

Ball was still on the board and Greensboro took him with the 14th pick.

The recent procedural issue had no impact on Ball in the end as the Swarm selected him in the first round. He spent the summer with the organization and will now have the opportunity to play the upcoming season in Greensboro.

The move to sign Ball by the Hornets over the summer was met with some skepticism but the 22-year-old proved he was worthy of a spot on the team. His development in the G League with the Swarm will certainly be worth monitoring this season.

The Swarm begin the regular season on Nov. 5 vs. the Birmingham Squadron.
