Liam Neeson's Nephew Dies 5 Years After Suffering from a Tragic Fall

Liam Neeson‘s nephew, Ronan Sexton, has died five years after sustaining serious head injuries from a fall, PEOPLE confirms. He was 35.

Sexton passed away over the weekend in Cushendall, a village in Northern Ireland, with his family present, according to The Belfast Telegraph, which first reported the news.

The 66-year-old actor’s nephew was seriously injured after falling from a telephone booth and hitting his head in 2014 while enjoying a night out with friends, PEOPLE confirmed at the time. Local authorities said that Sexton fell about 20 feet from the phone booth at around 4 a.m. that Sunday morning; Sexton was 31 at the time.

Sexton was taken to a nearby hospital where he was in critical condition at the time and later transferred to a specialist neurological center.

“Ronan is receiving wonderful treatment from the dedicated staff at Hurstwood Park,” his family said in a 2014 statement following the accident and thanked the public for their outpouring of “love, support, prayers and good wishes for Ronan.”

He was the youngest of six children. His mother Bernadette is Neeson’s sister.

This is not the first loss the Taken star has had in his family. Almost 10 years ago, the actor lost his wife, beloved British actress Natasha Richardson, who died at the age of 45 on March 2009 two days after she fell and hit her head while skiing in Quebec.
