Lewis Black To Host WGA Awards In New York
Comedian Lewis Black will host the 2017 Writers Guild Awards ceremony in New York, which will be held February 19 at the Edison Ballroom.
“I am honored to be the host of the 2017 Writers Guild Awards, of which I am a proud member,” Black said, “though all honors should go to the reality we have lived through for the past two years and are still living through, as it’s the most profound fiction I’ve ever witnessed.”
The New York ceremony – there’ll be one in Los Angeles, too – will be co-executive produced by Bonnie Datt and Shannon Walker, with Ann Cohen serving as the show’s head writer. It will mark the first time the show’s East Coast producing and writing team will be led by women.
Walker is co-founder and festival director of the Lower East Side Film Festival, and has been nominated for two Writers Guild Awards for the comedic web series Vicky & Lysander. Datt is a comedy writer-producer whose writing credits span television, print, stage and the web. She has served on the WGA East’s council since 2011 and has worked on the Writers Guild Awards in New York since 2009. She also served on President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign’s Entertainment Advisory Council.
Cohen is a comedy writer and producer in New York who’s been nominated for two Emmys and a Writers Guild Award. A frequent collaborator with filmmaker Michael Moore, she was the head writer for his series The Awful Truth, a staff writer on his TV Nation series, and a consulting writer on his health care documentary Sicko. She was also the head writer and an executive producer for the six-year run of VH1’s Best Week Ever, Best Year Ever and Best Day Ever series. Her other writing credits include time as a staff writer for Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, and Comedy Central’s Indecision with Al Franken.
