Between personal and legal issues, the breakup of The Beatles was an event that unfolded more dramatically than fans ever expected. It was no secret that there were tensions between the legendary band's members, and now, a direct look into those tensions has been made public through a letter written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono to Paul and Linda McCartney.
The letter, currently sold online by Boston-based auction house RR Auctions, appears to be in response to a correspondence sent by the McCartneys that focused on how Lennon had been saying to the press regarding the band's breakup. Lennon insists, however, that it is the fault of Paul, George, and Ringo and their treatment of Yoko Ono that led to The Beatles' demise.
John Lennon goes on to criticize things that the band had to do to reach their height of fame, how Paul McCartney was dealing with that fame, and even Paul's marriage to Linda. As one might suspect, Lennon does not hold back in the letter, using some strong language to express his frustration.
According to the Daily Mail, RR Auctions believes that the letter will be sold for at least $20,000.

"Dear Linda and Paul,
I was reading your letter and wondering what middle aged cranky Beatle fan wrote it. I resisted looking at the last page to find outโI kept thinking who is itโQueenie? Stuartโs mother?โClive Epsteinโs wife?โAlan Williams?โWhat the hellโitโs Linda!
You really think the press are beneath me/you? Do you think that? Who do you think we/you are? The โself-indulgent doesnโt realize who he is hurtingโ bit (quotation marks and the word โbitโ in handwriting) โI hope you realize what shit you and the rest of my โkind and unselfishโ friends (the word โfriendsโ untyped and added in handwriting) laid on Yoko and me, since weโve been together.
It might have sometimes been a bit more subtle or should I say โmiddle classโโbut not often. We both โrose above itโ quite a few timesโ& forgave you twoโso itโs the least you can do for usโyou noble people.โLindaโif you donโt care what I sayโshut up!โlet Paul writeโor whatever.
When asked about what I thought originally concerning MBE, etc.โI told them as best as I can rememberโand I do remember squirming a littleโdonโt you, Paul?โor do youโas I suspectโstill believe it all? Iโll forgive Paul for encouraging the Beatlesโif he (word โheโ added in handwriting and not typed) forgives me for the sameโfor beingโโhonest with me and caring too muchโ! Fucking hell, Linda, youโre not writing for Beatle book!!!
Iโm not ashamed of the Beatlesโ(I did start it all) (brackets to โI did start it allโ were added in pen)โbut of some of the s*** we took to make them so bigโI thought we all felt that way in varying degreesโobviously not.
Do you really think most of todayโs art came about because of the Beatles?โI donโt believe youโre that insaneโPaulโdo you believe that? When you stop believing it you might wake up! Didnโt we always say we were part of the movementโnot all of it?โOf course, we changed the worldโbut try and follow it throughโGET OFF YOUR GOLD DISC AND FLY!
McCartney, pictured with his first wife Linda, has since confirmed the anger between him and Lennon after the Beatlesโ break-up was real but that they later made up before his former band-mate was murdered in 1980
Donโt give me that Aunty Gin shit about โin five years Iโll look back as a different personโโdonโt you see thatโs whatโs happening NOW!โIf I only knew THEN what I know NOWโyou seemed to have missed that pointโฆ.
Excuse me if I use โBeatle Spaceโ to talk about whatever I wantโobviously if they keep asking Beatle questionsโIโll answer themโand get as much John and Yoko Space as I canโthey ask me about Paul and I answerโI know some of it gets personalโbut whether you believe it or not I try and answer straightโand the bits they use are obviously the juicy bitsโI donโt resent your husbandโIโm sorry for him. I know the Beatles are โquite nice peopleโโIโm one of themโtheyโre also just as big bastards as anyone elseโso get off your high horse!โby the wayโweโve had more intelligent interest in our new activities in one year than we had throughout the Beatle era.
Finally, about not telling anyone that I left the BeatlesโPAUL and Klein both spent the day persuading me it was better not to say anythingโasking me not to say anything because it would โhurt the Beatlesโโand โletโs just let it petre outโโremember?
So get that into your petty little perversion of a mind, Mrs. McCartneyโthe cunts asked me to keep quiet about it. Of course, the money angle is importantโto all of usโespecially after all the petty shit that came from your insane family/in lawsโand GOD HELP YOU OUT, PAULโsee you in two yearsโI reckon youโll be out thenโinspite of it all, love to you both, from us two.
P.S. about addressing your letter just to meโSTILLโฆ.!!!"
