Let’s Hear It for the Ladies of the Golden Globes

On Sunday’s Golden Globe broadcast, Ricky Gervais included a couple of jokes that touched on the hot topic of women in Hollywood: “Of course women should be paid the same as men for doing the same job. I’d like to say now that I’m getting paid exactly the same as Tina and Amy did last year. I know there were two of them; it’s not my fault they wanted to share the money.” New BFFs Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer introduced clips from their respective films Joy and Trainwreck and opened by addressing preconceived notions people have about them — mostly that everyone wants to hang out with them and that they should be models. Winning speeches included Lady Gaga (American Horror Story: Hotel), who revealed she wanted to be an actress before music was on her radar; Taraji P. Henson, who handed out cookies as she made her way to the stage, then channeled Cookie (Lyon, her Empire character) to shut down the music that dared attempt to cut her speech short; Brie Larson (Room), who displayed impeccable manners in her thank-yous; and Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), whose emotions were on display as she shared how her show almost wasn’t.
