Leonardo DiCaprio Takes a Tour of Climate Change's Environmental Consequences in 'Before the Flood' Trailer

In 2007, Leonardo DiCaprio produced, co-wrote, and narrated The 11th Hour, a documentary about the perilous state of the planet at the time, and the measures that could be taken, in terms of conversation and technology, to help stave off impending disaster. Nine years later, the Hollywood star takes up the cause again, as producer and star of Before the Flood, a new non-fiction film about the environment — and now you can see its trailer above.

In the film directed by Fisher Stevens, we see DiCaprio visit with the Pope, Elon Musk, President Barack Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, and former President Bill Clinton to discuss the radical consequences of climate change, which the Oscar winner says has led to “a paradise that has been degraded and destroyed.” Clearly driven by his frustration with the lack of global urgency to combat this issue — which he says we’ve known about “for decades” — DiCaprio takes viewers to some of the places most affected by rising temperatures and volatile weather. His goal, as he states, is to both pinpoint the current degree of the crisis, and to learn if there’s anything we can do to reverse it.

DiCaprio’s A-list clout should help Before the Flood get noticed when it premieres in theaters in New York and L.A. on Oct. 21. It airs on National Geographic TV, which helped produce the film, on Oct. 30.
