Leonardo DiCaprio, Robin Thicke and More Honor Alan Thicke at Touching Memorial
Friends and family are still celebrating the life of Alan Thicke after the beloved Growing Pains star died unexpectedly last week at age 69.
Son Robin Thicke gathered with several family members as well as Alan’s TV family — Joanna Kerns, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kirk Cameron, Tracey Gold and Jeremy Miller — on Sunday night to pay tribute to their “father figure.”
A public Facebook post by Thicke’s daughter-in-law Dolly Thicke — who is married to Brennan Thicke, Alan’s oldest son with ex Gloria Loring — shows the Growing Pains cast at the memorial, plus photos of attendees Bob Saget, Bill Maher and Alex Trebek, among others.
“Tonight’s memorial for Alan was just about perfect,” Dolly wrote on Sunday. “So much family and so many historic friends came out to remember our beloved father-figure.”
She described the “all-star cast,” who came out to remember Alan’s life and legacy, writing, “We heard from our own Robin Thicke who brought up all dear dad’s best friends, Bob Saget, Bill Maher, Alex Trebec who I had no idea had such old deep ties to our family, the entire cast of Growing Pains including Leo and Kirk Cameron who I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time, along with his wife who became an instant friend.”
Tributes for the Canadian-born actor have been pouring in from loved ones and costars since he died of a heart attack while playing hockey with his youngest son, Carter, last Tuesday.
Kerns, who played Alan’s wife on screen from 1985–92, also told PEOPLE over the weekend: “Alan was an unforgettable TV dad and husband. In the course of the show we became dear friends. He was a relentless flirt — handsome, cocky and wickedly funny. But he was also at heart a kind soul with a knack for self-deprecating humor.”
“For seven seasons we loved to tease each other off camera,” Kerns continued. “I like to think that in some way this chemistry, this kind-hearted banter, came through on camera as well, and helped make Growing Pains memorable. I feel so lucky to have known him and I know we will all miss him.”
Alan’s brother Todd also opened up to PEOPLE about losing his sibling and friend over the weekend: “He was so much fun as a big brother,” he shared of their childhood connection. “As we got older, we did everything together. He really my mentor.”
Todd added that losing Alan has been “difficult for all of us. I really think, more than any family I’ve ever seen, we take strength from each other. We’re closer than ever. I think this has made our bond even stronger.”
