"The morning she showed up and she said, 'Take your clothes off.'"

Lenny Kravitz is as surprised as you are that he ended up totally naked in his “TK421” music video.

The Grammy-winning musician revealed that its initial concept, proposed to him by director Tanu Muino, made no mention of him stripping down to his birthday suit.

"She came to me and said, 'This is what we're going to do,'" Kravitz told PEOPLE on the Palm Springs International Film Festival red carpet on Thursday. "'You're going to get out of bed, you're going to get ready for the day, you're going to get dressed, and then you're going to walk out of the house.'”

It wasn’t until he arrived on set for the shoot that Kravitz discovered he wouldn't be spending the day in cozy pajamas. "The morning she showed up and she said, 'Take your clothes off,'" he recalled. "But it was fun. It was fun, and I had a lot of fun doing it."

In the music video, Kravitz wakes up and turns over just in time before his sheets are ripped away from his body to unveil that he’s completely nude. The rocker continues to avoid showing all of his skin as he gets ready for his day, ducking behind household objects and, at one point, covering his package with his hand.

Kravitz explained in an October TikTok upon the video's release that the song is all about “positive energy” and “positive spirit” — and draws inspiration from a few famous films.

“One of my favorite movies is Boogie Nights by Paul Thomas Anderson,” he said. “There’s a character, Buck Swope, he’s working in this stereo store, and he’s trying to sell this stereo to this guy and why he should buy it, but he’s saying, ‘If you really want this stereo to sound really, really good and work, you have to get the TK421 modification.’”

“He doesn’t really know what he’s talking about and he’s just bulls---ting the guy to spend this money to do the modification,” Kravitz continued. “I use that as a metaphor because the TK421 is this thing that makes it better. That gives it more power.”

The rocker also revealed that the title has ties to a galaxy far, far away. “TK421 is also the name, or number I guess, of a stormtrooper in the original Star Wars,” he said. "It started with George Lucas, went to Paul Thomas Anderson, and now to my song."

Kravitz's new album, Blue Electric Light, drops on March 15. Watch him bare (almost) all in the "TK421" video above.
