Rocker Lenny Kravitz is having a big year.

In addition to getting a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, the multi-Grammy winning artist received a coveted nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he is releasing his 12th studio album, "Blue Electric Light," on Friday (it's his first new album in six years) and he turns 60 on Sunday. And let's not forget the surprise maiden visit to Buc-ee's earlier this year that left unsuspecting fans speechless.

The Tennessean caught up with Kravitz at an ASCAP luncheon during Grammy week earlier this year to talk about "Blue Electric Light," a record he said he should have made decades ago.

He had just written "Let Love Rule," his 2021 New York Times bestseller that chronicled his life from birth up to his first record deal.

"I spent a lot of time in that book, going back through my teenage years, and it was kind of like therapy," he said. "There were so many things I hadn't thought about so deeply, and so right after that I started making the record, so I think there was a part of my high school spirit that was in there."

Although Kravitz doesn't typically wait six years between albums — most releases have spanned a two- or three-year period — the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in his schedule.

"It's never usually that long," he said, "but I was two years into a three-year tour when the pandemic hit, so I was already two years gone past the release of the album and then the pandemic hit, but I am so excited to be back."

The release of "Blue Electric Light" comes on the heels of singles releases "TK421" and "Human," which set the tone for the more spirited side of Kravitz. He seems to be celebrating life and enjoying creating music. As he approaches 60, he appears to be in the best shape of his life.

He sent the internet into a tizzy with the release of his sultry and playful video for "TK421," which he followed up with workout videos on his Instagram that showed him shirtless, doing inverted, weighted sit-ups while donning his signature leather pants and dark sunglasses, with the text: "Thank God for today! Grateful. Never been better. There are no shortcuts so seize your day. It is all possible. Love!"

Kravitz is currently on a tour that will span Europe this summer and culminate in a five-day Las Vegas residency in October. Look for a Nashville date in 2025, his reps confirmed.
