Lena Waithe, Danny Pudi, Debra Granik, and More Among Sundance 2024 Jury

The 2024 Sundance Film Festival jury has officially been unveiled, with 16 filmmakers and artists on the juries across sections.

Multi-hyphenate producer Lena Waithe, actor Danny Pudi, and directors Debra Granik, Nicole Newnham, Jennifer Kent, Christina Oh, and Charlotte Regan are just a sampling of filmmakers who have had projects at prior Sundance festivals. All of this year’s jury members are Sundance alums to mark the festival’s 40th anniversary.

The 2024 Festival will take place January 18 through 28 in-person in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah along with a selection of films available online across the country from January 25 through 28. Many of the jurors will participate in 2024 festival programming, including announcing the awards on January 26. Awards across five categories will be honored at an intimate award ceremony held at The Ray Theatre in Park City; the short film jury winners will be announced at the Shorts Awards & Party presented by Argo and WeShort on January 23.

In addition to the 16 competition jurors, five jury members will present the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize to “Love Me,” directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero. The jury, which includes both film and science professionals, presents the award to an outstanding feature film focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer or mathematician as a major character. The 2024 jury includes Dr. Mandë Holford, Dr. Nia Imara, Matt Johnson, Theresa Park, and Courtney Stephens.

The 2024 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Dramatic Competition jury includes “Winter’s Bone” director/co-writer Granik, “Shortcomings” screenwriter Adrian Tomine, and “Master of None” producer Waithe for U.S. Dramatic Competition.

“Navalny” producer Shane Boris, “The Disappearance of Shere Hite” director Nicole Newnham, and “The Sentence” director Rudy Valdez serve on the U.S. Documentary Competition jury, with “The Babadook” director Jennifer Kent, “Mississippi Masala” director Mira Nair, and “Frankie” cinematographer Rui Poças for World Cinema Dramatic Competition.

Fremantle’s Undeniable creative director Mandy Chang, “Flee” producer Monica Hellström, and “All That Breathes” director Shaunak Sen are behind the World Cinema Documentary Competition jury, and “Minari” producer Christina Oh, “Community” actor Pudi, and “Scrapper” director Regan will select the Short Film Program Competition. “A Murder at the End of the World” co-creator Zal Batmanglij serves on the NEXT competition section.

Festival audiences attending in person will have a role in voting for the 2024 Audience Awards, open to films in the U.S. Competition, World Competition, and NEXT categories. Attendees are also able to vote for the Festival Favorite, which is selected across all in-person eligible feature film screenings.

The festival’s opening night gala will honor Kristen Stewart, Christopher Nolan, and Celine Song, among other filmmakers. Click here to see the full festival lineup.
