‘Svalta:’ XYZ & Wayward Wrap Production On Horror Pic With Nick Frost And Aisling Bea

EXCLUSIVE: XYZ Films, Wayward Entertainment, and Resolute Films have wrapped on the horror pic Svalta with This Way Up actor Aisling Bea and Nick Frost leading.

The pic, written and starring Nick Frost, has just wrapped production in Tampere, Finland, with post-production currently underway in the UK. Plot follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them, the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family. The title is taken from the name of the fictional island. Directing is Steffen Haars (New Kids Turbo). Cast is rounded out by Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper) and newcomer Maisie Ayres.

Lena Headey (Game Of Thrones) had previously been attached to the pic but stepped back due to what has been described as scheduling conflicts. She was replaced by Bea.

Svalta is produced by Lee Kim for Resolute Films, John Hegeman for Wayward Entertainment, Nick Spicer and Aram Tertzakian for XYZ alongside Frost. Co-producer is Richard Kondal for Big Safari, with executive producers Vince Totino of Wayward Entertainment and Patrick Fischer of Creativity Capital.

The film is financed by XYZ in collaboration with IPR.VC, along with additional financing from Creativity Media, with tax incentives and support from Business Finland, Business Tampere, and the City of Tampere. London based Koala FX provides VFX. Service production company was Inland Film Company Oy, with offices in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland.

Frost is best known for his roles in the Edgar Wright-directed trio Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. He was most recently seen in Fighting With My Family, alongside Florence Pugh, and HBO’s The Nevers. Bea is an actor, writer, and stand-up comedian. She is best known stateside for roles on titles such as Netflix’s Living With Yourself, also starring Paul Rudd, and Home Sweet Home Alone for Disney Plus. She wrote and starred in the Hulu comedy This Way Up alongside Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) and Tobias Menzies (The Crown).

Current XYZ titles include Atom Egoyan’s TIFF title Seven Veils, starring Amanda Seyfried, and Ash, starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul, directed by Flying Lotus. The Netflix Original Havoc, directed by Gareth Evans, starring Tom Hardy and Forrest Whitaker, and Daniela Forever, directed by Nacho Vigalondo, starring Henry Golding and Beatrice Grannó. Recent releases include Blackberry, released by IFC Films, and the Nick Cassavetes film God Is A Bullet, starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Maika Monroe.
