This ‘legit’ restaurant is a ‘piece of heaven’ for Boise. It just closed for a while

Uncle Giuseppe’s Italian & American Eatery is near-legendary around these parts.

After all, is there a place more fun in Idaho to order sandwiches like The Frank Sinatra and The Gotti — then buy authentic pasta salads, or cured meats and cheeses by the pound? Where else can you get hollered at by some friendly guy behind the counter — “Heeeeey! How you doin’?” — with a thick Italian-New York accent?

Customers love the local business at 6826 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City. It’s like suddenly materializing inside a sandwich shop in Brooklyn.

“Oh my goodness,” a Yelp reviewer recently gushed, “I think I just walked into a piece of heaven here in Boise. This Italian deli is legit!”

It also legitimately closed this week — but only temporarily.

Uncle Giuseppe’s announced on Facebook that it will reopen Oct. 17.

“Thank you all for the well wishes,” the deli posted, adding, “we are headed to some much needed R&R and family time. See you all when we get back.”

This isn’t the first time Uncle Giuseppe’s has taken a break. It is, after all, a small father-son operation.

But 17 days? Man, that’s a long time for Boise to go without its cannoli fix.

Like The Godfather sandwich, consider it an offer we can’t refuse.
