Much to the displeasure of Link and Zelda’s fans, the streaming giant isn’t planning to bring the video game to live action so people can binge-watch it.

First introduced in 1986, the iconic video game franchise follows the courageous hero, Link, as he embarks on epic quests to rescue Princess Zelda and thwart the plans of the villainous Ganon. Set in the fictional realm of Hyrule, the Legend of Zelda games are known for their rich storytelling, puzzles, exploration, and iconic items like the Master Sword and Triforce.

Why was the live-action Legend of Zelda series canceled?

Nintendo canceled the Legend of Zelda series live-action series project following some leaks.

In 2015, Netflix and Netflix were working to adapt the popular video game series. However, things took an unexpected turn after someone related to the project informed The Wall Street Journal about the series. The show would have been a Game of Thrones for a family audience, blending swords and sorcery with a more kid-friendly tone.

Shortly after the reports, Nintendo, which always had a protective stance on its IPs, pulled the curtain on the project. Since then, there hasn’t been any more news on a new Legend of Zelda live-action series. While it was just a computer-animated adaptation, the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie might let fans hope Nintendo could be more favorable to adaptations in the future.
