'Legend of Tarzan' Trailer: More Backstory, More CGI Animals, More Shirtless Skarsgård

Warner Bros. has released its second trailer for this summer’s The Legend of Tarzan, one that reveals a bit more about the movie’s narrative, as well as a menagerie of CGI animals.

Unlike the teaser that arrived back in December, this one delves more into Tarzan’s origin story, showing his father attempting (and failing) to survive in the jungle while keeping his family, including baby Tarzan, alive. The new trailer also highlights a sequence in which a thundering wave of computer-generated bulls descend from the hills and appear to be headed straight for Christoph Waltz, who plays the film’s villain, Captain Leon Rom.

While the film is reportedly set after Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) has left the jungle and is living in society as Lord Greystoke with his wife, Jane, played by Margot Robbie, the new preview focuses almost exclusively on Tarzan in his wilder, less fully clothed form. Interestingly, this clip barely shows Djimon Hounsou and leaves Samuel L. Jackson heard but not seen.

This latest preview for the David Yates-directed adventure seems intent on emphasizing the scale and sweep of Legend of Tarzan. The film arrives in theaters July 1, when it will compete against another movie with some scale and sweep: Steven Spielberg’s The BFG.
