LeBron James Wears Nike Deion Sanders Hybrid Sneaker in New Colorway During Loss to Nuggets

LeBron James revealed a new colorway for his Nike LeBron 21 “Prime Year” mash-up sneaker during the Los Angeles Lakers’ Thursday night loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The special makeup for his signature sneaker borrows elements from Deion Sanders’ Nike Air DT Max 96 and was first worn by James during the NBA All-Star Game in February. A new colorway for the shoe, which has been given the name “Prime Year” because James in his 21st NBA season and Sanders played with the no. 21, utilizes red, white and black. Trademark elements from the Nike Air DT Max 96 carry over to the LeBron 21 through the claw mark-like striping and strap.

The Air DT Max 96 originally released in 1996 as Sanders’ third signature sneaker from Nike. The Swoosh continued to release the sneaker, albeit with a different name and without Sanders branding, during the decade-plus in which he was signed to Under Armour. Despite promises to never wear Nike again, Sanders resigned with the brand last year, and Nike has began reissuing the Air DT Max 96 with its original marks.
