LeBron James supportive of Derrick Rose in return: 'He doesn't owe us an explanation'

LeBron James is not holding any grudges toward Derrick Rose. At least that’s his public stance.

Rose, now a backup point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, left the team on Nov. 24th to reportedly evaluate his future after a sprained ankle added another toll to the long line of physical ailments that have derailed his once-promising career. He reportedly rejoined the team on Monday with no timetable set for his return to the court.

James, seemingly sympathetic to the plight of the 2011 MVP, told media at shootaround that there was no ill will for Rose’s departure.

“He doesn’t owe us an explanation,” James said. “You never know what someone is going through. We just home that we can be his support system.

“We’re happy that he’s not given up on his love at this point of his life and his career.”

Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue echoed James’ thoughts at shootaround.

“He wants to be back,” Lue said. “He wants to play, and he’s too young and too talented to give it up this early.

It’s difficult to say what Rose’s role will be upon his return. The Cavs got off to a 5-6 start before his injury and lost their next game, but have reeled off 11 straight wins since.

With point guard Isaiah Thomas reportedly making progress on his return from hip surgery, Lue will have some big lineup decisions on his plate.
