Bronny James is planning a return to the basketball court soon, according to his dad, NBA star LeBron James.

On Monday, LeBron, 38, was asked about Bronny's status during the Los Angeles Lakers media day, just over two months after 18-year-old Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during a workout at the University of Southern California.

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, LeBron said, "Bronny is doing extremely well. He’s began his rehab to get back on the floor this season.”

The NBA star added that his son underwent a "successful surgery," Buha reported.

“We’re happy to see where he is and what his future still has in store for him,” LeBron concluded in his comments about his son, who recently began his first semester at USC.

On Sept. 27, ESPN reported that USC Basketball coach Andy Enfield offered a similar update to LeBron's regarding Bronny's recovery. "Bronny's doing very well, but we just can't comment on anything medically. He's going to class and doing extremely well in school, and we're really excited for him," Enfield said, confirming that the athlete did not participate in the team's first practice of the season.

Bronny was participating in a basketball workout at the university when he went into cardiac arrest in late July, according to a representative for the James family.

In August, the James family announced that Bronny was diagnosed with "an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect.” The family expressed that it is something "which can and will be treated."

"After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified," the statement said.

In May, LeBron said the day his son committed to play basketball for USC was "one of the best days of my life."

"First of all, congratulations to Bronny on his decision he made. I'm super proud of him, our family is proud of him," LeBron said on Spectrum SportsNet at the time. "For me personally, it's even more special to me because it's the first time someone out of my family to go to college. Obviously, I didn't go to college."

He continued: "It's just a proud moment to see my son go to college, and he's the first one to go college in my family. Super duper proud, super emotional, but just super duper excited and happy for his journey," he concluded.
