At Least Three Dead and Dozens Injured After Vessel Capsizes Off San Diego Coast

At least three people were killed and dozens injured after a boat capsized off Point Loma in San Diego, California, on May 2, which authorities believed was a smuggling vessel.

Border Patrol agent Jeff Stephenson told reporters the boat was bringing immigrants to the United States. He said the investigation was still unfolding and the nationality of the people on board was not yet confirmed.

Lifeguard Lieutenant at City of San Diego Rick Romero said 30 people were involved in the capsize, three of whom died and 27 others were sent to local hospitals.

A visitor on the scene filmed a dramatic video that shows multiple people jumping out of the boat amid rough surf conditions.

“Some (people) made it to shore and others were pulled out deeper into the ocean,” the source told Storyful. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
