Leah Remini on Scientology: 'We have more work to do'

By day, Leah Remini is a hard-working actress who co-stars on the CBS comedy Kevin Can Wait. And also by day, Leah Remini is a hard-working crusader against the Church of Scientology and the organization’s many and varied alleged abuses. The A&E series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath has earned the actress her first Emmy, for Best Informational Series or Special, and has been a critical and ratings hit for the network. Still, “It’s a tough show to do,” Remini told Yahoo Entertainment during a break on the Kevin Can Wait set. “Very fulfilling, but it is taxing.”

Remini says she’s “so grateful” for her role on the CBS comedy, because it offers her “relief” from the often brutal stories she hears while working on her Scientology exposé. Though a third season of Aftermath has not yet been ordered by A&E, Remini says she’s committed to uncovering the truth. “I’m going to continue to expose the abuses of Scientology and maybe other cults like it,” she says. “It’s a series that could go on for 20 years, but it shouldn’t. … I was hoping at this point that we would have caught the attention of the people who could do something about it and stop the abuses.”

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on A&E. Kevin Can Wait airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
