'A League of Their Own' Cast: Where Are They Now?

There's no crying in baseball — except, of course, for when this movie gives you all the feels. See what the likes of Tom Hanks and Geena Davis have been up to since the 1992 release of the sports dramedy

It's been 31 years since the ladies of A League of Their Own stepped up to the plate under the watchful eye of Tom Hanks. And in the decades since, the cast (including Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell) has gone on to great things as the film itself has continued to hold a place in viewers' hearts — and even earn a TV reboot.

Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan

It's been decades since Tom Hanks stepped up to the plate to play Jimmy Dugan, the cynical (and often drunk) manager of the Rockford Peaches. Unsurprisingly, in the years after the 1992 classic hit theaters, Hanks solidified his status as one of Hollywood's most in-demand leading men.

Hanks finished out the '90s with two Oscar wins and one nomination: nabbing the Best Actor statuettes for his roles in Philadelphia (1994) and Forrest Gump (1995) and clinching the same nomination for Saving Private Ryan (1999). Other first-rate films Hanks has starred include Apollo 13 (1995), the Toy Story franchise (1995-2019), You've Got Mail (1998) and Cast Away (2000).

The actor donned that classic red cardigan to play Mr. Rogers in 2019's A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. A few years later, Hanks starred in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis (2022) as the rockstar's cigar-smoking, scheming manager, Colonel Tom Parker. He followed up the biopic with Pinocchio (2022) and A Man Called Otto (2022).

Hanks' accolades extend beyond Hollywood. After making his Broadway debut in Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy in 2013, Hanks received a Tony Award nomination for best actor. In 2014, he was presented with the Kennedy Center Honors Medallion, and in 2016, former President Barack Obama gave the actor the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

He has also been a vocal advocate for U.S. veterans and their families and serves as chair of the Hidden Heroes Campaign of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. Hanks published a collection of short stories about his love of typewriters, Uncommon Type, in 2017.

Since 1988, Hanks has been married to actress Rita Wilson who he met on ABC's Bosom Buddies. The couple's family includes four adult children — actor Colin, Elizabeth, Chet and Truman.

Geena Davis as Dottie Hinson

Geena Davis was already a household name when she starred as the Peaches' catcher, Dottie — having won an Oscar in 1989 for her role as Muriel Pritchett in The Accidental Tourist. Then, just months before A League of Their Own was released, Davis was nominated in 1992 for Best Actress as one-half of the titular duo in Thelma & Louise.

In 1999, Davis portrayed Mrs. Eleanor Little — human mom to Stuart himself in Stuart Little — a role she reprised in two more franchise installments. Not long after, she appeared in Accidents Happen (2009) and Lake Bell's In a World... (2013). She also lent her voice to the English version of When Marnie Was There in 2015 before playing Jessica Chastain's mother, Bobbi, in 2020's Ava and Munca in 2023's Fairyland.

The actress found success on TV when she scored an eponymous ABC sitcom, The Geena Davis Show, playing a cosmopolitan party planner turned suburban stepmom. After starring as the first female president of the U.S. on Commander in Chief, which earned her a Golden Globe in 2006, Davis was featured on the first season of The Exorcist series. Davis also had a guest role on Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Nicole Herman and appeared on a few episodes of Netflix's GLOW.

When she isn't on-screen, Davis is an activist for gender equality, advocating increased media representation for women and girls. In 2004, she funded a groundbreaking study on gender in children's entertainment at the University of Southern California, and in 2007, she founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Davis was given a Governors Award in 2022 for her work with the foundation.

The actress is slated to appear in Zoe Kravitz's upcoming directorial debut — psychological thriller Pussy Island — which explores gendered power dynamics in male-dominated industries, including Hollywood.

Davis shares three children with ex-husband Reza Jarrahy: daughter Alizeh and twin sons, Kaiis and Kian.

Lori Petty as Kit Keller

Lori Petty played Peaches' pitcher Kit, Dottie's eager little sister with big dreams of playing in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Petty went on to appear in Free Willy (1993), In the Army Now (1994) and the cult-fave comic book series adaptation Tank Girl (1995).

In 2008, Petty wrote and made her directorial debut with The Poker House, inspired by her childhood during the '70s. The film starred Jennifer Lawrence, Chloë Grace Moretz and Selma Blair.

The actress has regularly appeared on TV, with spots on shows like Lush Life, Brimstone, House, Prison Break and Station Eleven. Petty is also known for her role as Lolly Whitehill on Orange Is the New Black, playing a conspiracy theory-obsessed inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary.

Megan Cavanagh as Marla Hooch

Megan Cavanagh's first-ever credit was as second baseman Marla — a role that marked the beginning of her long career on-screen. Cavanagh was also one of the few cast members to reprise their part on the short-lived CBS sitcom, A League of Their Own.

Off the baseball diamond, Cavanagh is best known for voicing Judy Neutron, mom to fifth-grade genius Jimmy in the animated Jimmy Neutron franchise. She found more voiceover success on animated series like The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Tak & the Power of Juju, The Mighty B! (starring Amy Poehler) and Winx Club. The actress played Chris, a pet accessory store owner, for two seasons on the Canadian series Exes & Ohs.

Her other film credits following A League of Their Own are Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Junior (1994), For Richer or Poorer (1997) and Freelancers Anonymous (2018).

Cavanagh married filmmaker Anne Chamberlain in 2008. However, according to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Chamberlain filed for divorce in 2020. Cavanagh has one son — Brendan — from a previous relationship.

Tracy Reiner as Betty Horn

Tracy Reiner was Betty "Spaghetti" Horn — the Peaches' relief pitcher whose husband was killed in World War II. As the daughter of A League of Their Own director Penny Marshall and actor-filmmaker Rob Reiner, and niece of screenwriter Garry Marshall, Tracy is Hollywood royalty.

She continued to act in films like Apollo 13 (1995), That Thing You Do (1996), Riding in Cars with Boys (2001), Raising Helen (2004), Valentine's Day (2010) and The Princess Diaries film series. Tracy was also the associate producer of the 2005 documentary Children of the Revolution: Tune Back In.

The actress was last on-screen in 2015's Chloe & Theo as part of a cast headed by Dakota Johnson. After a nine-year hiatus, she is set to appear as Mrs. Broomfield in the upcoming 2024 biopic Bogie and Bacall, documenting the love story of actors Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and the origins of the Rat Pack.

Reiner is married to Matthew Conlan, with whom she shares five children.

Madonna as Mae Mordabito

What has Madonna been up to since she took to center field to play New Yorker Mae "All The Way" Mordabito? Well, a lot.

Madonna followed up A League of Their Own with Evita (1996), where she earned a Golden Globe for best actress. She also appeared in The Next Best Thing (2000), Swept Away (2002) and Die Another Day (2002).

The superstar has worked behind the scenes on several projects. She executive produced the first two film installments of Agent Cody Banks, and directed, produced and wrote 2008's Filth and Wisdom and 2011's W.E. Madonna also has production credits on her various tour documentaries.

Madonna has released countless classic songs — including the award-winning Evita soundtrack — as well as albums like Erotica (1992), Bedtime Stories (1994), Ray of Light (1998), Music (2000), MDNA (2012), Rebel Heart (2015), Madame X (2019), etc.

In January 2023, Madonna announced her Celebration Tour, commemorating her legendary career and spotlighting her greatest hits such as "Like a Virgin," "Material Girl" and "Vogue." However, plans were put on hold in June when the singer was hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection.

The virtuoso has six children — Lourdes Leon, Rocco, David, Mercy James and twins Stella and Estere. She shares Lourdes with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon and Rocco and David with ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

Rosie O'Donnell as Doris Murphy

Believe it or not, Rosie O'Donnell's turn as third baseman Doris Murphy happened years before she was the host (and creator and producer) of her award-winning talk show. The Rosie O'Donnell Show ran between 1996 and 2002, won 11 Daytime Emmys for outstanding talk show and set O'Donnell up for a storied career.

The comedian followed six seasons of The Rosie O'Donnell Show with a stint on The View in 2006 (where she famously feuded with Donald Trump), the short-lived Rosie Radio on SiriusXM and OWN's The Rosie Show.

O'Donnell went on to land several recurring and cameo roles in film and on various series. She was featured as Rita Hendricks on ABC Family's The Fosters, made a cameo in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and popped up on an episode of Empire. She even appeared on two episodes of the CBS sitcom Mom as Allison Janney's character's ex-girlfriend.

The actress garnered critical acclaim for her role as Tutu on Showtime's SMILF and appeared on American Gigolo as Detective Joan Sunday and The L Word: Generation Q. In 2022, she joined the cast of Prime Video's A League of Their Own reboot as Vi, the owner of an underground gay bar. O'Donnell also voiced the subway announcer throughout season 2 of Russian Doll.

She is an outspoken advocate for LGBTQIA+ and adoption rights, and in 2003, she co-created Rosie's Theater Kids, a charity that aims to provide free music and dance education to New York City public school students.

O'Donnell has five children: Parker, Chelsea, Blake, Vivienne and Dakota. She was married to Nickelodeon executive Kelli Carpenter until 2004 and wed her second wife, Michelle Rounds, in 2012. The two finalized their divorce in March 2016 before Rounds died of apparent suicide in 2017.

Anne Ramsay as Helen Haley

Anne Ramsay played the Peaches' first baseman, Helen Haley, but audiences know her best from her starring turn in the long-running '90s show Mad About You alongside Helen Hunt. After A League of Their Own, Ramsay appeared in Planet of the Apes (2001), The Human Contract (2008) and Bombshell (2019), among others.

The actress has remained a familiar face on TV, with roles on shows like The L Word, Six Feet Under, Dexter, Hawthorne, The Secret Life of The American Teenager, Hart of Dixie and Ordinary Joe.

Ann Cusack as Shirley Baker

Ann Cusack's first role was Shirley Baker, the Peaches' left-fielder who reveals she can't read. Cusack went on to appear in Multiplicity (1996) alongside Andie McDowell and Michael Keaton, and later that year, she landed the part of Karen Foxworthy on The Jeff Foxworthy Show.

The actress was part of the cast of film favorites like Accepted (2006), Nightcrawler (2014) and Sully (2016), where she reunited with her former League costar Hanks to play real-life heroic flight attendant Donna Dent.

Cusack (sister to actors Joan and John) has made several TV appearances — from guest spots on shows like Boston Legal and Grey's Anatomy to recurring roles on Private Practice, Tycoon, Mr. Mercedes, Better Call Saul and Castle Rock. Since 2019, she's appeared on Prime Video's The Boys as superhero Starlight's mother.

Bitty Schram as Evelyn Gardner

Bitty Schram played right-fielder Evelyn Gardner, the quietest member of the Peaches, in her second-ever movie role. While she had minor roles in films like The Pallbearer (1996) and Marvin's Room (1996), Schram is best known for playing the titular detective's assistant, Sharona Fleming, on Monk.

After stepping back from acting, Schrim returned to the screen in 2016's Moments of Clarity, an adventure dramedy starring Lyndsy Fonseca.

Freddie Simpson as Ellen Sue Gotlander

Freddie Simpson (born Fredda Simpson) played shortstop beauty queen Ellen Sue Gotlander in A League of Their Own but stopped acting soon after; Her last credit was the short film Blue in 2002. In May 2016, Simpson attended the League of Their Own reunion softball game at the Bentonville Film Festival.

Simpson has become a health coach and acupuncturist and holds a master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine, according to her practitioner bio on Ten Stones Acupuncture clinic.
