Law & Order: SVU’s Episode 3 Will Be ‘Very Different’ From the Norm, Guest Star David Krumholtz Says

David Krumholtz is no stranger to the Law & Orderverse: He guest-starred in the original series and played a mushroom-obsessed murder suspect in SVU Season 12. But when he shows up Thursday in the current season’s Episode 3, he told TVLine, you should expect something a little out of the ordinary.

First off, in the same way that Kelli Giddish played a rape victim years before she became Det. Amanda Rollins, Krumholtz is portraying a completely new character. “I’m a victim this time, but I won’t give anything else away,” Krumholtz said at a recent celebration of SVU‘s 25th season. “It’s a great episode.”

He added: It’s a very different Law & Order: SVU.”

The promo that aired after Episode 2 backs that up: It appears that Krumholtz’s character may have been sexually assaulted by a woman, which is a change from the series’ standard, male-perpetrated crime. (Watch the preview below.)

Krumholtz, whose TV credits include Numb3rs and The Deuce, first announced his involvement in the NBC procedural via social media.

“My dude @icet is a trip,” Krumholtz wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of him with Sgt. Tutuola himself. “LOVED working on L&O SVU these past couple weeks. Stay tuned!”

When he chatted with us, Krumholtz joked, “Ice-T is my man and he was intimidated to work with me, and I can understand why — not as an actor, but as a rapper, because I’m also a rapper. I’m not kidding. But once, after the first couple of days, he calmed down. He chilled out a little bit. I said, ‘Ice, you don’t need to be nervous around me.’ You know what I mean? Leave that for Mariska [Hargitay, who plays Capt. Olivia Benson].”

His TV credits also include White House Plumbers, The Plot Against America, The Good Wife, Mom and Billions.

Krumholtz’s Law & Order: SVU episode will air on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 9/8c.
