Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4: Everything We Know

What does Det. Elliot Stabler’s undercover beard and Law & Order: Organized Crime have in common? They’re both back for a whole new round of action.

More from TVLine

Season 4 of the NBC procedural is upon us. Before it arrives, we’ve gathered all the important intel about what Stabler and his co-workers will be up to in the episodes ahead. You’ll recall that Season 3 ended with an out-of-state manhunt that involved the casts of Organized Crime and Law & Order: SVU; the crossover event, which doubled as Organized Crime‘s season finale, found the combined law-enforcement teams working together to shut down a rape-and-murder-for-hire website.

Though they ultimately were successful in this endeavor, victory came with a costs: Det. Jamie Whelan was shot while pursuing the site’s creator; his injury left him permanently paralyzed. In the hospital, he begged Reyes to turn off the machine keeping him alive, but Reyes refused. Later, when Whelan’s father visited him, he acquiesced to his son’s wishes, and Whelan died.

The loss of his young co-worker was on Stabler’s mind when he visited his old partner, Capt. Olivia Benson, at the end of the crossover. He gave her a golden compass necklace, then gently let her know that he wouldn’t see her for a while, because he was headed into a new undercover operation. (Read a full recap here.)

Now that you’re all caught up, read on for all the intel on Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4.

Law & Order: Organized Crime will be back for Season 4 on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10/9c. Law & Order‘s Season 23 premiere will kick off the evening at 8 pm, followed by Law & Order: SVU‘s Season 25 premiere at 9 pm.

We don’t yet know what will take place during Organized Crime‘s fourth season. A synopsis for the premiere episode, titled “Memory Lane,” reads: “Stabler must deal with rapid changes at work and home after returning from a dangerous undercover assignment. Bell hires an advisor whose AI technology program could revolutionize police investigation. Jet and Reyes struggle with Whelan’s absence.”

We do know that we’ll meet Det. Stabler’s brothers Randall and Joe Jr. during the season. As TVLine exclusively reported in November 2023, Joe Jr. is the youngest brother, who spent 15-ish years in the Army before being dishonorably discharged (though he hasn’t said exactly why). He now works for a British wine merchant, doing a little of this, a little of that — and there’s something about the work that makes him ashamed to come face-to-face with Elliot, his hero.

Randall is Elliot’s older brother, who left the family when he was young and created a thriving career for himself as a real estate developer. But he and Elliot have a long-standing tension stemming from an event involving their father.

Christopher Meloni, Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger and Rick Gonzalez are expected to return for Season 4. Brent Antonello, who played Det. Jamie Whelan in Season 3, will not return; Whelan died at the end of Season 3 after he was paralyzed during a shootout and he asked his father to unplug the machine keeping him alive.

In December 2023, TVLine exclusively reported that Breaking Bad alum Dean Norris would play Elliot Stabler’s older brother, Randall, in Season 4. And in January 2024, we exclusively reported that Mike Trotter (The Right Stuff) would play Joe Jr. Fun fact: Trotter is married to Jamie Gray Hyder, who played Det. Kat Tamin on SVU.

What happens in the trailer for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4?

“Bravery is doing what you’ve gotta do despite being scared to death,” Stabler says in a new trailer for the upcoming season. As we watch footage of the detective and his co-workers dealing with “guns, drugs, homicide” — as Sgt. Bell notes — she stands in front of a presentation about fentanyl’s terrible effects on the city’s overdose rate. We also see Reyes and Jet — who appears to be undercover — before Stabler announces: “Let’s get to work.”
