Lavash Café will open a new bakery this summer next to its location at 2985 N. High St. in Clintonville.

Lavash Bakery will be located at 2995 N. High St., formerly the home of beer and wine store Growl!

Lavash Café co-owner Dr. Jamal Latif said the café needed more space to increase its volume. Plus, customers have continued to ask for sweets they miss from their home countries.

"Columbus not only has been booming in the size of our population but also in our diversity," he said. "In the Middle East, bakeries are such important parts of the community. Breads and sweets are the [staple] of every household."

On the menu will be Lavash's pita bread, savory fatayer (folded or flatbreads with spinach, cheese, zaatar or meat), as well as other traditional Middle Eastern and American sweets. The bakery will also offer coffee from Stauf's.

Lavash Bakery has been in the works for six months or so, said Latif, with plans to open in early to mid-summer.
