Lauryn Hill tops Apple Music’s 100 best albums list

For over two decades, Lauryn Hill’s only solo studio album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” has had “that thing” and now it tops yet another list.
The 1998 album hit No. 1 on Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums List.
To honor the feat, the music streaming service hosted an intimate dinner in New York where radio personality Ebro Darden revealed the news to Hill. Apple Music posted a video of the event on Instagram.

“This is my award, but it’s a rich, deep narrative and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love,” the caption read.
“This is my award but it’s a rich, deep narrative,” the Fugees frontwoman explained. “It involved so many people and so much sacrifice and so much time and so much collective love. This is as much mine as it is yours. This is our celebration.”
“Mommy, this is yours,” she said as her mother held her hand during the event.
Hill’s album beats out Michael Jackson’s iconic album “Thriller,” The Beatles’ “Abbey Road,” Prince’s “Purple Rain,” Frank Ocean’s “Blonde” and Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life.”

Apple Music started rolling out the list on May 13, in increments of 10.
The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” hit No. 20, Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic,” came in at No. 19. Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” is at No. 18, while Adele’s “21” came in at No. 15. Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint” beat out both in the No. 13 spot. Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors” came in at No. 11.
Beyoncé was on the list twice. Her 2013 surprise self-titled album hit No. 36.
Like many music lists, fans quickly noticed who was left off.
“The top 100 album list for people who don’t listen to albums,” wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

There was no mention of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Nicki Minaj or Justin Timberlake among many others.
While Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 studio album hit the top 10, fans felt his 2015 record “To Pimp a Butterfly” should’ve been included on the list as well.
Fans felt 50 Cent’s 2022 smash hit “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” deserved a higher spot than No. 82.
“Buddy the worst snub is having 50 Cent’s ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ at 82,” tweeted one user.
