Laura Linney and Stephen Colbert’s Hilariously Dark Coffee Commercial

Laura Linney stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote her new movie Genius, but the two ended up talking about a (fake) commercial they did for a (fake) coffee brand called Yesterday’s Coffee. The commercial started off very sweet and lighthearted, like many coffee commercials, but it quickly took a dark turn.

Linney entered the kitchen, where Colbert was pouring a cup of coffee that he brewed yesterday, yet it tasted like it was fresh-brewed because that’s what is so great about Yesterday’s Coffee. The mood in the ad changed when Colbert started brewing tomorrow’s coffee and Linney interrupted him. Colbert snapped back with, “What? Damn it, Jill! I lost count of my scoops!” The two then hilariously played out what would normally be a very depressing scene of a couple who are clearly not happy with their lives.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
