Laura Dern to knock back Just One Drink in Quibi series from Nick Hornby

The unstoppable Laura Dern train is chugging from the Oscars to the… bar?

Marriage Story‘s awards juggernaut — who just won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her work in the Noah Baumbach-directed film — will lead Quibi’s upcoming Nick Hornby-penned short series with the working title Just One Drink, the new streaming service announced Tuesday.

Dern is set to star as a bartender who serves eclectic patrons in “various states of emotional disrepair,” according to an early synopsis. The series will chronicle her customer service across multiple one-act vignettes.

Just One Drink is currently in the development stage before it heads to Jeffrey Katzenberg’s new mobile-based short-form streaming platform, which will feature a wealth of nonfiction and scripted content clocking in at under 10 minutes per episode. Dern and Jaywalker Pictures’ Jayme Lemons serve as producers alongside two-time Oscar nominee Hornby (Brooklyn, An Education) and Elisa Ellis for Platform One Media.

Other celebrities who’ve landed Quibi series in recent months include Chrissy Teigen, Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, Naomi Watts, Tyra Banks, Jennifer Lopez, and RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Sasha Velour and Willam. EW has also partnered with Quibi for Late Night This Morning, a daily recap show highlighting late-night monologues, interviews, and sketches.

Quibi launches on April 6, while a release date for Just One Drink has yet to be announced. Keep up with EW’s full roundup of upcoming Quibi projects here.
