Late-night hosts show zero tolerance for Trump's immigration debacle

With the signing of an executive order Wednesday, the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their parents at the border may soon come to an end. Late-night hosts were more than ready to share their thoughts and to remind us that all is still far from well.

“Trump reversed course today and signed an order to stop separating immigrant kids from their families … and start detaining them together,” Jimmy Fallon said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “All right,” he added, “families getting locked up in cages together, yeah!”

On Late Night With Seth Meyers, Meyers was quick to point out the irony of Trump‘s making a big deal out of stopping the separation of families, saying, “Let’s be clear about one thing: You don’t get credit for solving a problem when you’re the one who created the problem.”

On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Colbert thought he knew why Trump felt compelled to sign the executive order, as many Americans shared the feeling the host had when he heard that young children were being sent to so-called tender age shelters.

“I think the last straw was when we found out last night [Tuesday] that the administration is sending babies and toddlers to facilities in Texas known as ‘tender age’ shelters,” Colbert said. “What age is that exactly? Because I’m 54, and that last sentence really kicked me where I’m tender.”

And Trevor Noah of The Daily Show pleaded with the Trump administration to speak English after noting that the executive order released to the media contained a misspelling of the word “separation.” On the initial release, it read “seperation.”
